Tell us about yourself and your journey since graduating from Salem University.

My name is Aisha Oiza Shaibu. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Salem University in 2019. Although my academic background is inscience, my journey at Salem helped me discover my true passion in the field of media and digital content creation.

From my first year (100 level), I joined the Press Team and by my third year, took Cinematography as an entrepreneurship course, which played a key role in building my practical media skills. My time in Salem opened doors for me to explore videography, social media management, and leadership. I was privileged to serve as the President of the Press Team, contributing to the university’s media presence and handling various creative projects.

Since graduation, I have built my personal brand, Designed by Oiza, through which I offer professional videography and digital media services. This path has led me to work with clients across Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the UK, earning income independently and contributing to creative industries globally.

How did Salem University prepare you for life after graduation?

Salem University equipped me with more than academic knowledge. It nurtured my leadership potential, creative abilities, and entrepreneurial mindset. The practical skills I acquired, especially through the Cinematography course and the Press Team, laid a strong foundation for my career in media. Salem instilled in me resilience, adaptability, and the confidence to thrive beyond the traditional use of my academic degree.

What has been your biggest achievement since graduation?

My biggest achievement has been successfully establishing and growing my personal brand, Designed by Oiza, which has given me financial independence and international exposure. Leading major creative projects, working with global brands, and building a career I am passionate about has been a fulfilling experience.

What advice would you give to current and prospective students of Salem University?

Take your academics seriously but also explore the other opportunities Salem provides. Participate in leadership roles, join creative units, and develop your talents beyond the classroom. The skills you gain from these extra-curricular activities can be life-changing. Be open to discovering your passion and don’t be afraid to build a career around it.

What are your future aspirations?

I aspire to become a globally recognized videographer, video editor, content creator, and media strategist who uses creative storytelling to promote public health and national development. I also aim to integrate my scientific background with my media skills to produce impactful, evidence-based content that informs and educates society while showcasing positive narratives about Nigeria.
