Mr. James Attah Onoja is the University Librarian at Salem University, bringing over four decades of distinguished service in library administration and academic leadership to his role.

Early Life and Education

Born on June 1, 1950, in Ogene-Unyi Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Mr. Onoja’s educational journey began at Qua Iboe Primary School (1957-1963). He then attended Government Craft School Idah (1964-1966) before proceeding to Government Technical School, Ilorin, where he obtained the City and Guilds of London Institute Part I & II and Federal Craft Certificate in 1968 and 1969 respectively.

Higher Education

Mr. Onoja’s academic pursuits continued with:

  • Advanced Level General Certificate of Education in Economics, Government and Religious Studies (1973-1974)
  • Bachelor of Library Science (BLS) – Ahmadu Bello University (1978)
  • Master’s Degree in Library Studies – University of Ibadan (1983)

Career at Federal Polytechnic Idah

Mr. Onoja began his professional career in 1979 when he took appointment with Federal Polytechnic Idah as Librarian I, immediately after completing his first degree in Library Science. His dedication and expertise led to steady career progression, culminating in his appointment as Polytechnic Librarian in 1999.

Leadership and Administrative Experience

Throughout his tenure at Federal Polytechnic Idah, Mr. Onoja demonstrated exceptional leadership abilities:

Mr. Onoja joined Salem University in 2012 on sabbatical appointment, bringing his wealth of experience to the institution. Following his retirement from Federal Polytechnic Idah in June 2015, he was given a contract appointment as Deputy University Librarian at Salem University, Lokoja, and has since served as University Librarian.
