Educational Management (B.Ed.)

Course Overview

The B.Ed. Educational Management programme is a unique blend of courses in Educational Administration and Educational Planning, unified under the course code EDM. This interdisciplinary approach is aimed at producing graduates who are both theoretically grounded and practically proficient in managing and planning education across all levels—primary, secondary, tertiary—and in Ministries of Education and related agencies. The programme also equips students to manage classroom settings effectively to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. Graduates are prepared for diverse roles, ranging from school administrators to educational policy makers, with the capability to function in public, private, and non-governmental educational environments.

This degree programme focuses on the development of managerial competencies required for effective operation within educational institutions and systems. Students gain deep insights into the dynamics of human behavior, interrelationships, and how these influence educational environments. By merging theory with practice, the curriculum prepares prospective managers to anticipate, interpret, and guide the behaviour of individuals and groups within the education sector.

Coursework is designed to emphasize IT-driven management, intelligence quotient (IQ), and emotional intelligence (EI), while providing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development. The programme incorporates practicum, laboratory demonstrations, and a double specialization structure, allowing students to combine Educational Management with a subject from the Sciences, Social Sciences, or Arts.

Graduates emerge with the necessary skills to contribute meaningfully to the administration of educational institutions, as well as to participate actively in policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation at various levels. The emphasis on practical learning ensures they are not just equipped with theoretical understanding but also with the capability to apply knowledge in real-world settings.
