PHILOSOPHY
The MBBS programme at Salem University is built on the philosophy that medicine is both a science and a calling — rooted in knowledge, service, and compassion. ANATOMY
Study of human structure including gross anatomy, histology, and embryology. Emphasis on applied anatomy for surgical and clinical relevance. Includes dissection, cadaveric study, and imaging anatomy.
PHYSIOLOGY
Explores normal body functions and mechanisms regulating organ systems. Topics include cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine, and nervous system physiology with clinical correlations.
BIOCHEMISTRY
Understanding the chemical basis of life processes. Topics include metabolism, enzymology, molecular biology, and biochemical foundations of diseases.
PATHOLOGY
Covers the mechanisms of disease processes, including cellular injury, inflammation, neoplasia, and organ-specific disorders. Integrates laboratory diagnosis and histopathology.
PHARMACOLOGY
Principles of drug action, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and rational drug use. Includes clinical pharmacology and adverse drug reaction monitoring.
COMMUNITY MEDICINE
Public health principles, epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, and health policy. Includes community postings, immunization campaigns, and health promotion projects.
INTERNAL MEDICINE
Diagnosis and management of adult diseases including cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine, and infectious conditions. Emphasis on holistic patient care.
SURGERY
Covers general and specialty surgical practices — preoperative and postoperative care, trauma management, surgical emergencies, orthopaedics, and anaesthesia principles.
OBSTETRICS AND GYNAECOLOGY
Normal and abnormal pregnancy, childbirth, family planning, and reproductive health. Includes antenatal, labour, and postnatal care; gynaecological disorders and surgeries.
PAEDIATRICS
Child growth and development, common childhood illnesses, immunization, and neonatal care. Focus on preventive paediatrics and family-centred care.
PSYCHIATRY
Recognition and management of mental health conditions such as depression, psychosis, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Includes counselling and psychosocial interventions.
FAMILY MEDICINE
Comprehensive, continuous care for individuals and families across all ages, sexes, and diseases. Integrates preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Salem University, Nigeria, invites suitably qualified candidates for admission into the MBBS Programme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Admission Requirements:
Five (5) credit passes at SSCE/NECO/GCE including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (obtained in not more than two sittings).
Acceptable score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as subjects.
Successful performance in the University’s Post-UTME screening.
