The College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Salem University Lokoja offers eight (8) degree Programmes across three (3) departments. These programmes are designed to provide students with a well- rounded education focused on practical application, problem-solving and entrepreneurial skills. With an emphasis on industrial training, research experience and interdisciplinary learning, the college prepares graduates to excel in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The four-year degree programmes are broad-based and practical in content, with an applied orientation. The unique features of the degree programmes are to ensure that graduates of SUL are relevant, well and an intellectual efficient to recognize and respond to opportunities, stimulate adjusted communication and entrepreneurship skills, flexibility and sensitivity to cope with and function productively in a dynamic, technological-driven world. To this end, all Global Leaders in the college are exposed to a wide array of subject areas and are encouraged to acquire a mindset of problem-solving within a challenging circumstances. Central to the curricula outlined below is the important places accorded to industrial training and experience in research, conducted to promote the spirit of enquiry.

The graduates of the college are well-trained, innovative and highly motivated scientists who are focused on and committed to generation of new knowledge and technological innovation. The College- Global Leader interchange and interaction are structured in such a way that graduates of the College will take away a healthy respect for knowledge and a desire to look beyond existing frontiers. In this way, an enquiring, enterprising spirit and attitude are fostered in the young graduate as he/she goes into the world.

The minimum academic standard (now core curriculum minimum academic standard) prescribed by National Universities Commission (NUC) supplemented by academic standard forms the basis of the degree structure and content. The award of the degree of Bachelor of Sciences (B. Sc.) in any programme is based on the cumulative credits earned in all prescribed courses taken by the Global Leaders within a specified period. In order to ensure steady and consistent engagement in and application to his/her study by the Global Leaders, continuous assessment is mandatory and forms 40% of the mark for each course.

 

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Salem University Lokoja organizes human and material resources available to her in order to:

  • Contribute to the overall objectives of making SUL a pre-eminent University and centre of excellence in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general, geared towards the building up of the total man.
  • Create a physical and psychological environment that is conducive for effective learning and creative enquiry.
  • Offer Global Leaders an extraordinary blend of quality classroom instruction, practical training and rewarding hands-on research experiences to prepare them for exciting careers in the natural and applied sciences.
  • Produce self-reliant, confident and adaptable graduates who are equipped to be job-and-wealth-creators rather than job seekers.
  • Deliver curricula in the natural and applied sciences which are strong in conceptual basics but oriented towards applicability, the curricula are unique in blending disciplinary depth with entrepreneurial and communication skills.
  • Prepare Global Leaders for postgraduate research and training in sciences and technology
  • Encourage scholarship for the finest tradition and promote research at the cutting edge of science and technology, with a view to making the fruits of scientific research relevant to national economic development, societal transformation and human progress.
  • Promote an appreciation of the importance and indispensability of science and technology in a modern society.
  • Be part of the vanguard effort to fight ignorance in the society through the dissemination of knowledge and liberalizing access to scientific information.
  • Promote a community ethos that shall, over time sustain the drive for scientific excellence across generational domains of time.
  • Sensitize Global Leaders about the social responsibilities of science and foster in them the sensitivity for responsible care of the environment.
