The B.Sc. Biochemistry programme is designed to equip students with deep insights into the chemical processes that govern life. Drawing from a blend of molecular biology, biotechnology, clinical diagnostics, and industrial biochemistry, this degree prepares students for impactful careers in science and healthcare. With a strong emphasis on analytical thinking, practical competence, and ethical foundations, the programme develops graduates capable of driving innovation in medicine, agriculture, environmental science, and pharmaceuticals.
Students will explore the structure and function of biomolecules, genetic expression, enzymatic reactions, and metabolic pathways that sustain life. The curriculum integrates research-based learning, interactive seminars, and laboratory-driven instruction to ensure graduates are prepared for both academic advancement and professional application.
This four-year undergraduate programme admits students into 100 level through JAMB-UTME or into 200 level via Direct Entry. The curriculum combines lectures, tutorials, practical lab sessions, case-based discussions, and supervised research. Students will explore the foundations of molecular biology, clinical biochemistry, and nutritional and environmental sciences. The programme emphasizes laboratory competence, scientific reasoning, and industry relevance through modern instrumentation and exposure to biochemical research.
Assessment methods include continuous assessment, laboratory reports, practical exams, group projects, and end-of-semester examinations. Students will also undertake research projects with oral defense in their final year, developing skills in scientific writing and inquiry.
